Follow-up Comment #1:

I thought this would be as easy as currently the graphic objects all have a
get_defaults method. Unfortunately that just get any default information that
is set, and if none has been set its empty. So more invasive changes were
needed.

Thanks to the feedback from Ben, the changeset

adds this feature. I believe its matlab compatible, but would appreciate
feedback.
