Details:

I have written an octave version of Conway's game of life (see Wikipedia for
more info on that), but it runs *very* slowly on the Windows version of
Octave. On Linux, it is fine, also in MATLAB (which I don't have at home), so
I suspect the reason is to do with wgnuplot. 

I have attached the program, if its of any use.
