Follow-up Comment #5, bug #31047 (project octave):
A recent changeset in the Mercurial repository
(http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/a44ba1cdfbb5) adds a configure
option '--without-opengl' which will disable compilation of the FLTK backend.
This should at least allow you to proceed to compile Octave without hacking
the Makefile.
