Follow-up Comment #1, bug #31695 (project octave): I don't think this is specific to the run-octave script. I don't see anything there that sets the PATH. But Octave does put some directories in EXEC_PATH, and that is prepended to PATH when the system function executes an external program. The idea there is to ensure that we call programs installed with Octave before others in the user's PATH. But maybe this is not the best solution.
