Follow-up Comment #7:

I don't think increasing priority will help much here. As I said, we need
someone with access to Matlab to come to the rescue.
FWIW, I think that the indexed assignment behavior in 3.0.1 was even far less
compatible with Matlab than the current behavior, just the problems were
elsewhere.
