Follow-up Comment #4, bug #31882 (project octave):

===============================
Does the crash over ssh start with:
octave:5> GL2PS error: Bad file pointer  ?

This is one indication of a known timing problem in the
fltk backend. However, in other cases there seem to be
other failures such as the PDF file ends up empty. It appears
to be the case that running locally works, at least most
of the time but any use of
connections which cause the writing of the figure to take too
long results in failures. Also, scripts with many calls
to plot() tend to fail at some point which is not
predictable. The known timing causes, AFAIK, are ssh
and use of NX (NX takes a relatively long time since it
copies the desktop to the remote machine).

Michael
