Details:
Since solving linear systems is so central to any numerical computation
environment, we often get people asking how does Octave compute the backslash
operator. I have referred people to the source in the past, but perhaps such a
referral can be complemented with an explanation for the FAQ.
I'm modestly putting out this request here, in case someone else can fill out
before I can.
