Follow-up Comment #6, bug #33291 (project octave):

If "str" is an empty cell, then I assume that gnuplot isn't handling the
printing of variables correcty ... either that or something is wrong with the
communication between gnuplot and octave.

When running gnuplot, what does the following produce?


gnuplot> print GPVAL_TERM
x11


Also what version of gnuplot are you running?
