Follow-up Comment #9, bug #33503 (project octave):
Because of the numerical difficulties mentioned, I attach a revised patch with
a more approximative, but numerically feasible solution. See comments in the
patch in null.m. Also, the case cols greater than rows is now excluded and
handled as in the original file.
