Details:

I'm using a MacPorts install of Octave (3.2.4), GiNaC (1.5.8), CLN (1.3.1) and
Symbolic (1.0.9). Any attempt to enter a symbolic equation causes Octave to
crash. 

octave:1> symbols
octave:2> R1=sym("r1")
octave(47027) malloc: *** error for object 0x7fff709c6500: pointer being freed
was not allocated
*** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug
panic: Abort trap -- stopping myself...
