Follow-up Comment #1, bug #34288 (project octave):
Is your copy of gnulib up to date?
After updating, did you run autogen.sh and configure?
You may also need to do "make clean" in the libgnu directory of your build
tree.
If none of those things fix the problem, then I think there may be a bug in
gnulib.
