Follow-up Comment #13, bug #33291 (project octave):

I have this exact problem, however, using a cyqgwin1.dll from
cygwin1-20111013.dll.bz2 or cygwin1-20110829.dll.bz2 makes it impossible to
start x. Using cygwin1-20110829.dll.bz2 and starting a normal shell and
starting x gives:

$ startx
xauth:  file /home/stjhla/.serverauth.4544 does not exist

xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error


Starting xwin just cause a crash.

I'm using 


$ uname -a
CYGWIN_NT-5.1 CO-W03749 1.7.10s(0.253/5/3) 20111013 23:34:03 i686 Cygwin


on windows xp.
