Follow-up Comment #13, bug #34720 (project octave):

I think I have narrowed it down to the print, especially the
__print_parse_opts__ function.

>From that it obtains a number of parameters, such as 'canvas_size', which is
uses for a couple of subsequent 'set' statements.

I am not too familiar with what's going on here, but simply removing the set
commands cleared the issue for me.
