Follow-up Comment #16, bug #35114 (project octave):
The basic thing that isn't working is meant to be run from an OS shell, not
from Octave. Try doing it in bash instead.
It would be easy to patch mkoctfile.m to return the output of the shell
command it runs, but I agree with jwe that linking every single library isn't
a good idea.
