Details:

Among the list of MATLAB-supported TeX character sequences there's "\ast" (see
http://www.mathworks.com/help/techdoc/ref/text_props.html#String). Octave
doesn't recognize that sequence. Example:


axes
title('foo \ast bar')


This produces "foo * bar" in MATLAB, but "foo \ast bar" in Octave.
