Follow-up Comment #46, bug #36732 (project octave):

I think the current implementation does qualify as a function.  There is only
one output for a given input.

I must admit, I'm not sure how what interp1 ([1 2 2 3], [1 2 3 4], 2) should
return. Thus, I think the point on ambiguity is apt.  The current sources
returns 3.  Is this what is desired?  If so, perhaps that should be made clear
in the documentation.
