Follow-up Comment #4:

I fixed the problem on the development branch of Octave in this changeset
(http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/8bd5c490b787).  You will either
need to build from source to see the changes or wait until the next scheduled
release, probably in a few months time.  For the time being, if you put all of
your mex code in the same directory it should work.
