Follow-up Comment #2, bug #37234 (project octave):

I tried again--setting a couple breakpoints, stepping through--the unix prompt
returns.  However, I relaunch the GUI and the process ends without the
appearance of the GUI.  My default-qt-settings doesn't seem to have
changed...oh wait, the file now seems to be

~/.config/octave/qt-settings

and the time/date of that file suggests it was modified when I recently tested
this.  The file is small, so I'm going to print this out:
