Follow-up Comment #3, bug #38236 (project octave): looking at how actually simple the function "demo ()" is, I think the bug is probably rather in eval or clear. While I try to look more deeply into this issue, I pushed a changeset: http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/59715612ea72 with a test for this bug that does not use demo.
