Follow-up Comment #15, bug #38280 (project octave):

Sorry about that.  I get really tired of FUD about Fink.  Our default build
process is essentially:

configure
make
make install
<cram installed stuff into a .deb archive>

with appropriate path settings and the like.  There are no hardcoded
striplings of libraries or executables.

Do I need to do more than just put -MD in the CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS to get
debugging information?
