Follow-up Comment #7, bug #38264 (project octave):

I don't have the time to implement a solution, but it sounds as if an updater
needs to be added to graphics.cc/graphics.h.in.

I've done that in the past.  It took be a few hours of study to remind myself
how the updating works, and then a few minutes to implement.

In any event, to verify your diagnosis is correct, have you tried "refresh"?
