Follow-up Comment #15, bug #38305 (project octave):

I've tracked down some discussions on this problem, and it appears to be
"non-trivial", to say the least.  The issue seemed most prevalent in VLC (this
discussion isn't on target):

It would take me too much time to understand exactly what they are discussing,
but the issue appears to be that QProcess is using SIGCHLD and complications
arise if somehow that signal is blocked.  I've a feeling that is what the
Samba server support might be doing.  If neither of you understand
kernel-level behavior to this level, maybe we should move the discussion back
to the maintainers list in hopes someone there understands.
