Details:

This is a problem that occurs when I first open Octave GUI (0.8.8).
Although I can tell that more letters and words are meant to be displayed
(many end in the middle of sentences or words) the Terminal will not display
them. 
When I grab the screen and alter it's size it will flash the missing
characters at me, but once I stop they disappear again. Sometimes, that
doesn't even happen.
