Follow-up Comment #2, bug #39179 (project octave):

I found out that 

edit xxx.m

does not automatically show the editor (if hidden) or set the focus to the
editor. Changeset http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/6960ac6ed127
fixes this.

Concerning the function do_edit_file (), should it really being called if
QScintilla was not built for the system or should this case be handled as if
no gui is available?
