Update of bug #33714 (project octave):

                  Status:                    None => Need Info              
                 Summary: octave --path C:\ fails on mingw (3.4.2 and dev)
when directory is drive root directory => octave --path C: fails on mingw
(3.4.2 and dev) when directory is drive root directory

Follow-up Comment #1:

Is this still a problem with the 3.6.4 version of Octave on Windows?

Also, isn't this an interaction with the Mingw shell rather than with Octave? 
The shell is probably turning "C:\" into "C:" before Octave ever sees it.

You might need to write "C:\\" so that the backslash is escaped from
processing by the shell.
