Follow-up Comment #2, bug #39578 (project octave):

Good point.  With matlab the "buttondownfcn" does not function when the zoom
tool is active.  I assume that the same is true here?

This problem is beyond my present understanding of the code, and since there
is some lower hanging fruit, I'll likely not but any more effort into this.

I assume that "buttondownfcn" works as intended with the qt toolkit?
