Follow-up Comment #5, bug #39305 (project octave):

In windows (mingw), ctrl-v typed into the GUI command window and then pressing
another key displays that key value.
<Ctrl-V pressed and then left cursor> displays \340K

It seems to do that no matter if I have something in the clipboard or not: I
can paste from the menu, and the content will be pasted.

Using the copy menu sends an actual ctrl-c to the command window if nothing
was selected in the terminal, and a a command is running.
Ex:
>> sleep(60)
<Ctrl-C pressed>  Press Ctrl-C again to abort
<Ctrl-C pressed>  <GUI terminates>
