Follow-up Comment #1, bug #40229 (project octave):
I suspect that this is the same problem reported in
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/index.php?40231, and that the real issue is not
evalin, but that the parser does not properly clean up partially constructed
parse trees if it encounters an error.
