Follow-up Comment #2:

I don't have a problem with the current description.

But to be more constructive, your description is not particularly accurate.
The examples directory contains examples of the Octave C++ API, but also mex
API examples, an example of how to embed Octave in a standalone program, and
some examples of how to do classes in the Octave language.

To the audience of etc/HACKING, namely people hacking on Octave, the examples
directory *should* be pretty self-explanatory honestly.

I'm going to go ahead and close this as won't fix, just because nobody has
jumped at the chance to apply your patch over several months, and I don't
think "examples" really needs a better description.
