Follow-up Comment #12, bug #40436 (project octave): The difference in octave prompt between octave-cli and octave-gui was addressed by jwe on the maintainer's list. It should be cosmetic and not a source of the problem. I do see that you updated not only your gcc compiler but also libc. That is a pretty big change. It's hard to say though who is right. It may be that the new gcc/libc is not initializing some value in which case it is gcc's problem. Or it may be that Octave was not initializing something and relying on some default behavior, in which case the fix should be in Octave. You have already determined that it wasn't LLVM which caused the problem.
