Follow-up Comment #7, bug #40962 (project octave):
No worries. Sometimes it takes 3 restarts, sometimes a dozen or more.
After playing with it some more, I have now seen what you thought I said the
first time :) If I resize the GUI to be slightly smaller than the display area
(not including the gnome-shell bar), I have now seen the GUI become maximized
after 1-5 restarts.
