Follow-up Comment #5:
No more problems with symbolic links however next issue is that mingw doesn't
have sys\sockets.h.
A few ifdefs are needed for Winsock (same is done in source forge sockets
package) and link with winsock on windows.
If you want, I can get it compiled on mingw and send the changes.
