Follow-up Comment #6, bug #41202 (project octave): The issue is the same one identified earlier that 'echo on' turns on echoing for scripts at all levels, not just toplevel scripts. In this case, when a directory is added to the path one of the hooks that is done is to run the PKG_ADD script for the directory. That is the source of all the screen output.
