Follow-up Comment #1:

Confirmd, still a problem with wavread in the development version of Octave.
There was work done recently to open audio files with libsndfile. Once that
work is merged into the development Octave repository, we can revisit this
feature request and see what needs to be done to get this format working with
libsndfile support.
