Follow-up Comment #11, bug #41236 (project octave):

Actually, if you'll attach your configure log *and* a dump of your compile
output, I can study it. This one frustrated me for some time, and in fact I
got messages that looked *very* similar to this at first.

One thing you can try is adding --enable-link-all-dependencies to your
configure flags.
