Follow-up Comment #5:
This seems to be a problem with the 3.6.4 Macports version of Octave, rather
than a problem with Octave itself. I think the simplest solution is to
upgrade, or wait until Macports produces a 3.8.0 version. Some help for
installing on MacOS X is available here:
