Follow-up Comment #3, bug #39532 (project octave):
The matlab doc says the 'all' option (and also 'property_structure' I suppose)
is deprecated, so I would not bother with it.
As you mention matlab's .mat, hgsave should also support other binary formats
than '-v6' and 'v7.3' (octave's '-binary' at least).
