Follow-up Comment #6:

I checked in a changeset that changes optimget() and thereby fixes the example
in this bug report.  The fix was done on the development branch
(http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/8d4d78285c8e).  In order to see
the fix you will need to wait until the 4.2 release, which could be a very
long time, or simply grab the optimset.m and optimget.m files from Mercurial
(there is a web interface at http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/).
