Follow-up Comment #23, bug #37554 (project octave):

I used GraphicsMagick from Macports and also see segfaults.  Using ImageMagick
from Macports, there are no segfaults.

Alexander Hansen at Fink has been very responsive to changing Fink's Octave
package.  Perhaps you can email him and ask him to provide an ImageMagick
version?

You could try a build yourself by modifying the info-file to use ImageMagick
instead.  I assume you just need to replace the line below,

+variant+
--with-magick=GraphicsMagick
-varatint-

With

+variant+
--with-magick=ImageMagick
-varatint-
