We are using Ubuntu with NFS v4. NFS shares are always mounted with sync
enabled.
Your are right, it might still be an NFS related problem, but on the other
hand, we have this setup running for quite some time and other applications
are fine (eg MATLAB).
Of course I am available for testing any patches or suggestions you provide.
