Follow-up Comment #30, bug #35511 (project octave):

I attached a slightly modified patch that includes %!tests for reset function.
The test related to patch objects needs bug #42159 fixed.

As you'll see, I have commented out one of the tests that passes with both
gnuplot and fltk graphics toolkits, which both operate sequentially with
octave interpreter, but crashes octave with qt. There seems to be a race
condition: if I slow down the reset process by inserting pauses in
"xreset_defaults" there is no crash anymore. 

@Ben: about the size of the image in bug #42121, this is due to octave not
using the default image cdata when one calls "image ()" without arguments.
Should I also correct this behavior or file a new bug report?
