Follow-up Comment #32, bug #42589 (project octave): I suppose the change to the operators is OK for stable since it only adds a new protected member function. But would it cause link failures for .oct files compiled with 3.8.2 but then used with 3.8.1 libraries? Does it matter? Mostly I think we care about having code built with older libraries still working with newer versions of Octave libraries in the same stable release series.
