Yes, that's how autoconf checks work.
I responded on the patch thread, but I'll repeat myself here: I think if we
just get rid of the float conversions for octave_int, we might not need any
autoconf checks at all. I'm not sure we need both double and float
conversions, and I think that having both of them is what triggers the LLVM
bug.
The LLVM devs also seem reluctant to fix their bug, since they think that
having both conversion types is a weird thing that we don't need to be doing
to begin with.
