Details:

Running octave 3.8.0 on a Macbook under OS X 10.9 I found out, that the
symbols |\[], which are created by pressing ALT + 7, SHIFT + ALT + 7, ALT + 5,
ALT + 6 on a standard Apple keyboard, are accepted by the GUI Editor Window,
but not by the GUI command window. There seems to be no way to input them
using a standard Apple keyboard.
