Oups, I though I had replied:
This very bug (which used to be bug #38449, reported by Muhali also) is
supposed to have been fixed in the default branch
(http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/dc88c5784f74).
It is thus expected that gui-release or stable still behave incorrectly.
@Muhali: can you confirm you're not using the default branch?
