Thanks for your bug report. This looks to me to be limited to the FLTK
toolkit, and also looks to be fixed in the current development version of
Octave.
Specifically, your example gives me the behavior you describe using 3.8.2 and
on the gui-release branch, but not on the current default branch. If you are
able to test Octave from the development tree, can you confirm that the
problem you are seeing is fixed? Can you also confirm that switching to
graphics_toolkit("gnuplot") fixes it even in 3.8.2?
