Follow-up Comment #52, bug #44186 (project octave):

Just tested the patch and it works for me so I think it can be committed.

As for the eps format, jwe hates checking version numbers.  The best way is to
test capabilities.  For that, I think using 'gs -h' and strfind are the way to
go.

I checked in a changeset that does that here
