Follow-up Comment #44:

Thanks Torsten, I adapted your patch to use Octave's iprocstream and pushed it
to default:

It works perfectly for me with gzip-compressed and xz-compressed info files.

Leaving this bug report open for the file dialog case and the more general
case of QProcess / SIGCHLD handler not working. If there are no further
problems in the current GUI, this should be closed as fixed.
