Follow-up Comment #6, bug #44380 (project octave):
I have also noticed that under "Advanced properties" selected from the menu
obtained on right-clicking the Octave icon, there is a box for "Run in
separate memory space" which is ticked by default, and cannot be modified.
Could this have something to do with the memory problem?
