Follow-up Comment #10, bug #44322 (project octave):
If you are using Debian, then the mxe-octave build system is the wrong thing
to use to get dependencies.
Just use apt-get build-deps octave instead and you'll get most dependencies
for the current Octave sources all neatly packaged for your system.
The mxe-octave thing is really only intended for those systems that don't have
the necessary dependencies already packaged.
